Man Turbo and Metso to Supply CMPC's Power Expansion Project at Nacimiento Santa Fe

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chilean CMPC (Santiago, Chile), a producer of Pulp, Paper & Wood products, has awarded equipment manufacturing companies Man Diesel & Turbo (Augsburg, Germany) and Metso Oyj (HEL:MEO1V) (Helsinki, Finland) contracts to work on the mill's power plant expansion.

The project's total investment cost is estimated to be $120 million. The project will add a Metso biomass-fired boiler, which will drive a 50-megawatt (MW) Man Turbo steam turbine. Infrastructure construction began last month. The generating unit is scheduled to be operational in February 2012. The energy will be used to power the plant, and the excess will be sold to the national grid.

Santa Fe's mill is located in Region VIII (Bio Bio) of Chile, approximately 500 kilometers south of Santiago de Chile. The mill started operating in May 1991 and has a production capacity of 1.15 million tons per year of bleached kraft softwood pulp. About 450 people work at the facility. The plant is equipped with two 40-MW turbines and a 20-MW turbine. The complex is also equipped with two heat-recovery steam boilers and two force-heat boilers, which recover steam for pulp production.

CMPC produces and commercializes wood, pulp, tissue, paper and paper products. Located in Santiago de Chile, the company has more than 20 operating mills in various Latin American countries and exports products throughout the world.
