Maple Energy Advances Development of Ethanol Plant in Peru

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Maple Energy plc (LSE:MPLE) (Lima, Peru) is progressing on the development of a new ethanol plant in Piura, Peru. The company recently completed all of the financing and secured an additional $42.5 million for the estimated $254 million project.

Maple Energy recently entered into a contract for ethanol loading, storage and shipping with Penta Tanks Terminals SA. The company also entered into an equipment supply contract with Hidrostal SA.

The 35 million-gallon-per-year plant is currently under construction and is being built by Haug SA (Callao, Peru). The plant will process sugarcane into ethanol. The area where the plant is being built has one of the world's highest yields of sugarcane per acre.

The project also involves contracts with farmers to grow sugarcane exclusively to supply the plant with feedstock. Commercial operations of the plant are expected to commence in the second quarter of 2011.
