Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dickerson Power Station, located in Dickerson, Maryland, shut down its 196-megawatt (MW), coal-fired Unit 3 on November 11, due to an accident that caused a coal pipe to rupture. The station is owned and operated by NRG Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NRG) (Princeton, New Jersey).
Officials are still investigating the cause, but said that they have determined no other components were damaged. Plant officials said that the repair is ongoing, and they anticipate the unit could be ready to return by Monday, November 18, pending additional delays.
The Dickerson plant has three generating units and a total generating capacity of 588 MW at full load. Units 1 and 2 will continue to operate at full capacity while repairs are made to Unit 3.
NRG has diverse power generating facilities and capacity of about 47,000 MW.
