Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). McLane Company Incorporated (Temple, Texas), a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Incorporated (NYSE: BRK/A) (Omaha, Nebraska), is constructing a new food distribution center in Carney's Point, New Jersey. (Plant 1060130, PEC 07001867)

Structural steel erection is expected to begin on the 215,000 square foot structure next week, in hopes of having the building shell completed by December before winter weather sets in.

The company selected Construction Management Technology (Addison, Texas) as the design-build contractor and the firm has been on-site for a couple of months, now preparing the property for the building.

Plans are to construct a warehouse with 60 percent of refrigerated storage area and 40 percent dry storage area with multiple shipping and receiving docks plus an office area. Automated inventory control and order picking along with miles of conveyor's will be installed, as well, outfitting the center with the latest technology in food distribution center design.

Once the $12 million food distribution center is completed in the Spring of 2004, some 280 new jobs will be created.

McLane Company, Incorporated provides distribution services to multiple industries throughout the United States delivering food and non-food products to more than 50,000 customer locations around the world, including the convenience store, drug store, mass merchandise, wholesale club, quick service restaurant, and movie theater industries. Berkshire Hathaway acquired McLane from Wal-Mart Stores Incorporated back in May of 2003.
