New Alkylation Unit at Aconcagua Refinery in Chile

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Empresa Nacional del Petróleo (ENAP) (Las Condes, Chile) plans to build an alkylation unit at the 100,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Aconcagua refinery by the third quarter of 2011.

ENAP, a state-owned oil company, has awarded Técnicas Reunidas (Madrid) the contract for the construction of a sulfuric acid alkylation plant at the Aconcagua refinery during 2010-11. The civil construction of the plant, which will have a processing capacity of 6,300 BBL/d, began in May 2010, and the project completion date is expected to occur by August 2011.

ENAP, through affiliate company ENAP Refinerías S.A., operates three refineries in Chile: the previously mentioned Aconcagua refinery, the 115,700-BBL/d Bio Bio refinery, and the 17,600-BBL/d Gregorio refinery. The Aconcagua and Bio Bio refineries were the most affected by the February 27 earthquake, which forced the plants offline for about two months in Aconcagua.
