Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant went offline overnight as it began to refuel, but a problem with the generator caused the unit to trip. The plant is 88% owned by NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida), with the remaining portion owned by municipal utilities in New Hampshire.
The unit is now stabilized in mode 3. The refueling will continue.
The plant is 40 miles north of Boston and 10 miles south of Portsmouth. It is powered by a Westinghouse pressurized water reactor and cooled by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It can generate up to 1,296 megawatts and is the largest individual electrical generating unit in the New England power grid.
