New Methanol Plant Planned for Ohio - California Firm to Commercialize Unique Green Energy Technology

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Firm Green Energy Incorporated (FGE)(Irvine, California) is permitting a three million gallon per year green methanol plant in Grove City, Ohio. In a unique green energy application, FGE's vision is to create a Green Energy Center, producing methanol, biodiesel fuel, and CO2 from renewable landfill gas, utilizing Hydro-Chem (Holley Springs, Georgia), a division of Linde reforming and synthesis technology. FGE is the developer, owner, and operator of the project, which will be sited near the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio's (SWACO) Franklin County landfill in Grove City, Ohio.

FGE has acquired the exclusive worldwide license for the CO2 Wash Technology™ invented by Acrion Technologies, Incorporated (Cleveland, Ohio). The CO2 Wash Technology™ Acrion will be a technical adviser to FGE on the project.

According to Steve Wilburn, President of FGE, “This project represents the first ever green methanol project in the world." Approximately one fourth of the green methanol produced at the plant will be used onsite in the production of biodiesel. FGE's plant will be the only plant in the world producing biodiesel with methanol made from renewable sources. The soy oil for the biodiesel plant will come from local Ohio soybean producers and processed in FGE's state-of-the-art soybean processing plant. The remaining methanol will be sold on the wholesale market.

The project will also incorporate cogeneration. Two megawatts of electricity required for the project will be supplied from reciprocating gas engines running on landfill gas.

FGE has selected a joint venture of Bibb and Associates (Lenexa, Kansas) and McCarthy Construction (Saint Louis, Missouri) as a turn-key EPC for the $25 million project. The company is awaiting final construction permit approval and expects to begin construction early next year, with an online date scheduled for the end of 2005.
