NJR Clean Energy Begins Construction on Windfarm in Iowa

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--NJR Clean Energy Ventures (Wall, New Jersey), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources Corporation (NYSE:NJR) (Wall), started construction late last month on the 20.7-megawatt (MW) windfarm in Carroll County, Iowa.

The $42 million project is located 65 miles northwest of Des Moines, on an 1,100-acre site.

The windfarm will comprise nine SWT-2.3-108 Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW. The project is expected to reach full commercial operation in the second quarter of 2015.

Completion of the project will aid NJRCEV's strategic plan for distributed power. The windfarm's electricity will be sold to MidAmerican Energy (Des Moines, Iowa) under a 25-year power purchase agreement. MidAmerican Energy is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy (Des Moines), which is part of Berkshire Hathaway Incorporated (NYSE:BRK.A.) (Omaha, Nebraska).

MA Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) will provide engineering, procurement and construction services.

NJRCEV purchased the project from OwnEnergy Incorporated (Brooklyn, New York) for an undisclosed amount. This is one of three projects that NJRCEV purchased from OwnEnergy. The other two include the Two Dot Windfarm in Montana, which went operational earlier this year, and the Alexander Windfarm in Rush, Kansas, which will begin construction next year.
