Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--There are currently 13 operational plants with 1,755 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy power generation in Oklahoma. Hydroelectric leads the way with 11 powerhouses producing 1,066 MW, but wind power is not far behind with five windfarms producing 689 MW.
Acciona Wind Energy USA (Chicago, Illinois), a subsidiary of Acciona SA (MCE:ANA) (Madrid, Spain), is building the 123-MW Red Hills Windfarm near Elk City, Oklahoma. M.A. Mortenson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is the balance-of-plant constructor. The windfarm will have 81 1.5-MW Acciona AW-1500 wind turbine/generators. Once the windfarm is complete, Acciona has arranged for Global Energy Services USA Incorporated (GES) (Conshohocken, Pennsylvania) to operate the windfarm.
