Overhaul on Schedule for Thessaloniki Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Hellenic Petroleum Company (Athens, Greece) is on schedule to begin a planned turnaround in January 2011 at its 72,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Thessaloniki Refinery, located in Greece's northeastern region of Macedonia.

During the turnaround, a new 15,000-BBL/d continuous catalytic reformer will be added. Upgrades will take place on the 72,000-BBL/d crude unit; the 16,500-BBL/d naphtha hydrofiner; and the 15,000-BBL/d crude light ends unit. The upgrades will increase production of low-sulfur gasoline and diesel to meet regional demand.

According to information disclosed by the refinery, the planned overhaul will take approximately 16 days.

The Thessaloniki Refinery is a hydroskimming refinery that operates in conjunction with the Aspropyrgos and Elefsina refineries as an integrated production unit. Hellenic processes crude that is mainly sourced from Saudi Arabia , Iran, Libya and Russia.
