Pantaleon Sugar Develops Sugar Mill Expansion Project in Panuco, Mexico

Español
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Cordoba, Argentina)--Sugar manufacturer Pantaleon Sugar Holdings Company Limited (Guatemala, Guatemala) is conducting preliminary engineering for an expansion project that is being carried out at its sugar plant in the city of Panuco, in Veracruz, Mexico. The cost of the investment is estimated to be approximately $15 million.

The project consists of an increase of the current 8,000-tonne-per-day sugarcane crushing capacity to 10,000 tonnes per day. Upgrades and modifications are to be done mainly in the raw sugar production area. Major equipment to be installed includes shredders, cane knives, motors, drives, gears and conveyors. The company will select equipment suppliers and subcontractors for the project until the first quarter of 2013. Civil works are expected to kick off in the third quarter of 2013, and they may last for approximately one year.

The sugar mill started operations in 1964. At present, 50 people work at the facility. It currently has a sugar production capacity of more than 125,000 tonnes per year. It also has a powerhouse with a 7.5-megawatt design capacity that is going to be expanded through the addition of a 10-megawatt steam turbine and generator.

Pantaleon Sugar owns five operational sugar plants. Two are located in Guatemala and the others are in Nicaragua, Honduras and Mexico. The company, which produces sugar, ethanol and energy, exports its products to multiple Latin American, Central American and Caribbean countries.
