Port of Long Beach Awards Contract for $47 Million Rail Yard Renovation

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Port of Long Beach (Long Beach, California) has selected Palp Incorporated (Long Beach), also known as Excel Paving Company, to provide general construction services for the port's planned $47 million Pier G North Rail Yard Renovation Project.

The company plans to construct an intermodal rail yard and signalization system; perform grading; and upgrade existing utilities to increase the port's marine cargo handling operations. The project will include the demolition and removal of a portion of the Pier G Backlands, as well as railroad tracks and ties, and other site work. Construction is anticipated to begin this spring with overall completion slated for the summer of 2011.

Moffatt & Nichol Engineers (Long Beach) was selected to provide engineering services for the rail yard renovation project.
