Preparations for China's First Inland Nuclear Power Project to Begin in July 2008

Planning for the project, which will be located in Dafan Town of Xianning City, began almost 20 years ago. Pre-stage preparations are expected to begin in July 2008.

CGNPC is a leading nuclear power producer in China. The company successfully built the first large-scale commercial nuclear power station, the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station, 20 years ago. CGNPC currently has several nuclear power stations under construction, including Ling'ao II, Liaoning Hongyanhe and Fujian Ningde. By the end of 2007, the nuclear power output of CGNPC accounted for 47% of the total nuclear power output in China. The company owns independent CPR 1000 nuclear power technology.

The Hubei-Xianning project will include four 1,000-megawatt generating units that will utilize CGNPC's third-generation nuclear power technology, a CGNPC official said. If construction is completed as scheduled in 2012, Hubei would be China's first inland province to have a nuclear power station, said an official with Hubei's Development and Reform Commission.
