Pulp, Paper, and Wood Industry on Track to Surpass 2004 Expenditures in the Southwest Market Region

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). In 2005, the Southwest market region, which is comprised of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana, is set to lead all U.S. market regions in terms of capital and maintenance spending among paper and wood companies. Only two months into 2005, planned expenditures for the region for plants that will start construction this year are already more than half of last year's $946 million recorded for projects that started construction in 2004. Industrialinfo.com has identified thirty projects worth $646 million that are scheduled to start construction in 2005. Of those projects, twenty-one projects, with a combined total investment value (TIV) of $628 million, are considered capital, and nine are maintenance-related projects totaling $18 million. The TIV of the projects range in value from $1 million to $185 million.
