From February to September, sales of ice cream, flavored milk and curd usually increases in India, but due to the COVID-19 lockdown, sales are down by 50%. Only households are buying these products while restaurants and hotels remain closed. Also, excess milk stocks are about 20% higher than the stocks last year, due to supply line disruptions.
Daily average milk production in Punjab state is about 340 lakh liters (34 million liters), out of which 170 lakh liters (17 million liters) is market surplus, according to India's The Tribune.
