Repsol Begins Plant-Wide Turnaround of Tarragona Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--On February 4, Repsol YPF S.A. (BMAD:REP) (Madrid) began a plant-wide turnaround of its Tarragona refinery in Catalonia. Repsol plans to keep the refinery offline for at least another 50 days and expects the all units to be up and running again by the end of March.

The 54-day turnaround will include the routine inspection and, if needed, repair of the hydrocracker unit and several hydrotreater units, including the heavy gas-oil, diesel, and kerosene units. Other units in the turnaround include the:

• 150,000-BBL/d Crude Unit 1
• 67,000-BBL/d Vacuum Unit
• 7,000-square-meter-hour Hydrogen Unit
• 30,000-BBL/d Visbreaker Unit

Repsol is expecting at least $17 million in total turnaround costs.

Repsol owns and operates six refineries, for a total refining capacity of almost 1 million BBL/d. Five these refineries are housed in Spain, while the remaining is in Peru. The company also owns the 180,000-BBL/d Refap refinery in Brazil.
