Save-A-Lot Constructs New $16 Million Distribution Facility in New York

(St. Louis, Missouri), a wholly owned subsidiary of Supervalu Incorporated (NYSE:SVU) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is proceeding with construction of a new $16 million distribution facility in Coxsackie, New York.
Clayco Construction Incorporated (Saint Louis, Missouri) has been selected as the general contractor for the 332,750 sqft structure that will have over 62,000 sqft of refrigerated storage and 270,000 sqft of dry storage, office space, and shipping & receiving areas.
The distribution facility will be a regional hub and will house products like cookies, snacks, refrigerated and frozen items. It will support Save-A-Lot's expansion in the Northeast when it begins operation in the summer of 2004.
The new center will replace the warehouse that is currently being leased in Guilderland Center and is expected to create an additional 50 jobs and retain 80.
The facility will be the first tenant in the Greene Business and Technology Park on Route 9W.
Save-A-Lot is the nation's 13th largest retail grocery chain and the 5th largest under a single banner. Save-A-Lot is also one of the country's fastest growing chains. Annual chain-wide retail sales are in excess of $4 billion.
