Shell's Fredericia Refinery Performing Maintenance Turnarounds

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands) will perform a series of maintenance turnarounds at its 65,600-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Fredericia Refinery. The plant is operated by the subsidiary A/S Dansk Shell (Naerum, Denmark).

On Saturday, August 15, the 13,000-BBL/d fluid catalytic converter and the 29,000-BBL/d Visbreaker will be shut down for planned maintenance. The turnaround entails minor regeneration and decoking, and is expected to last eight days. Both units are coming down on Saturday for cooling and decontamination, and mechanical work is expected to start Monday, August 17. The units are expected to be back online August 22.

Separately, Shell has scheduled its next overhaul at the refinery for September 2010. During these operations, the 65,600-BBL/d crude unit will have two overhead condensors replaced. As usual, the turnaround is expected to last 30 nonproduction days. Overhauls at the plant are performed every five years; the last major overhaul was in April 2005.
