Site Construction Underway for Williams Bakery Relocation in Oregon

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). Williams Bakery (Eugene, Oregon), a part of privately-held United States Bakery (Portland, Oregon), is moving forward with relocation plans in Eugene, Oregon.

In February of 2005, a $22 million deal was struck with the University of Oregon to sell the existing bakery site to the school, in order to make room for a new $180 million basketball arena on campus. That left the bakery looking for a new site. Williams purchased a 14-acre site near 19th Avenue in Eugene and is currently pouring the foundation for a new $30 million, 160,000 square foot bakery.

The project is being headed up by general contractor, Wildish Group of Companies (Eugene, Oregon). The building foundation is about 90% complete, and the bakery structure is expected to be completed by September 2005. At that time, design-build mechanical contractor Harvey & Price Company (Eugene, Oregon) will begin relocating and installing equipment and machinery from the existing bakery, in hopes of having the facility ready to move into by November.

The new bakery will continue to produce bread and buns and will also allow room for future growth. The company has been at its existing location for over 100 years and currently employs about 160 people.

Founded in 1897, United States Bakery owns a chain of regional bakeries and bakery thrift stores located across the Northwest and operating under the names Franz, Gai's, Williams', Snyder's, and Smith Cookie (Archway Cookies) Company. United States Bakery sells a variety of breads, pastries, and cookies to grocery stores, restaurants, and food service operators. Products are marketed under the individual bakeries' names, as well as under brands such as Bay City, Seattle International, McKenzie Farms, Svenhard's, and Kate's.
