Synthetic Diesel Project by Flambeau River BioFuel Continues Forward Movement

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Flambeau River BioFuels LLC (Richmond, Virginia), a subsidiary of Flambeau River Papers LLC (Park Falls, Wisconsin), continues to move forward on the synthetic diesel project that will be located next to the pulp and paper mill in Park Falls, Wisconsin.

The company has recently announced the selection of Honeywell Process Solutions, part of Honeywell International Incorporated (NYSE:HON) (Morris Town, New Jersey), as the integrated main-automation contractor for the estimated $257 million project. The next step is getting funding for the project.

A previous project, a 20 million-gallon-per-year cellulosic ethanol plant proposed in 2007, was dropped for economic reasons. This time, the company believes the synthetic diesel project will get some funding from the Department of Energy because of the co-products that will be produced by the plant, increasing revenue beyond only the synthetic diesel production.

The plant's gasification system will convert wood biomass material into 9 million gallons per year of diesel and roughly 10 million gallons per year of waxes. The company has received an off-take agreement for the wax byproduct with a wax processor that is currently importing waxes from South Africa and Malaysia.

Once funding and permits have been secured, construction is expected to get under way by mid-2010, with operation scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2012.
