Target Corporation Begins Site Preparation for $110 Million Distribution Center in Illinois

Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT)(Minneapolis, Minnesota) has started site preparation on a $110 million regional retail distribution center, located along the Interstate 39 corridor in the 460-acre Park 88 Business Park in De Kalb, Illinois.

Site preparation was initiated in October of 2004 on a 1.5 million square foot retail distribution center to support the company’s regional operations. Construction on the building is expected in Spring 2005, with completion slated for July of 2006. Approximately 500 jobs will be created initially. In the next five years, the new distribution center is expected to create up to 1,100 jobs. The De Kalb location beat out other possible site locations in Wisconsin and Indiana for the new center.

Walsh Construction Company, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois was awarded the general construction contract for the distribution center.

Target Corporation, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is listed as the nation’s #2 discount chain operator with 1,275 Target and SuperTarget stores in 47 states. Target sold its Marshall Field’s and Mervyn’s department stores in 2004 after years of struggling to turn these stores around.
