Tennessee Valley Authority to Increase Nuclear Capacity

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) (Knoxville, Tennessee) currently has six nuclear operating units -- three in Alabama and three in Tennessee -- with a total capacity of about 6,700-megawatts (MW). The units in Alabama are all at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Station (Decatur, Alabama) and have a capacity of approximately 3,300 MW. TVA has three partially completed units -- one in Tennessee and two in Alabama. Watts Bar Unit 2 is currently about 80% complete and resumed construction in October 2007. Units 3 and 4 at Bellefonte are being developed with assistance from Enercon Services Incorporated (Tulsa, Oklahoma) and NuStart Energy Development (Kennett Square, Pennsylvania) and will use the new Westinghouse AP1000 reactor to drive two 1,154-MW steam turbine sets.
