Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Paradise Power Station, which is located in Drakesboro, Tennessee, shut down the 704-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 on Friday, January 23, for repairs. The station is owned by Tennessee Valley Authority (NYSE:TVE) (Knoxville, Tennessee).
Plant officials said Unit 1 was taken down after they discovered slag had built up in the boiler. They have isolated the problem and cooled the boiler so repairs can begin, but the investigation continues.
Officials said Unit 1 should be ready to return to service on Thursday, January 29, or as soon as all debris has been removed.
The plant has three generating units, with a total capacity of 2,558 MW when at full load. Unit 2 remains online at full load, while Unit 3 is offline in "not in demand" (NID) status. Unit 3 is scheduled to return to service on Thursday as well.
