Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--San Juan Generating Station, a coal-fired power plant located in Waterflow, New Mexico, is experiencing outages on three of its four onsite units. The station is owned by Public Service Company of New Mexico, a subsidiary of PNM Resources (NYSE:PNM) (Albuquerque, New Mexico).
The 350-megawatt (MW) Unit 2 and the 534-MW Unit 3 are currently in forced outages due to maintenance-related issues. Unit 2 was taken offline last week after personnel discovered that the turbine shaft was misaligned, and repairs are in progress. The unit will remain offline for the remainder of the week, with plans to restart it late next week.
Unit 3 was taken offline Wednesday morning when personnel discovered a condenser tube leak. The leak is still being investigated, but personnel say that the pH levels in the water were off and may have played a part in the tube leaks.
Unit 1, which produces 361 MW, has been offline in a planned outage since mid-February and will be re-started next week. There are several maintenance actions being performed on this unit, as well as a host of environmental upgrades.
