Torch Renewable Energy to Construct Wind and Solar Facilities in Newport, North Carolina

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Torch Renewable Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Torch Energy Advisors Incorporated (Houston, Texas), is developing an 80-megawatt (MW) windfarm and a 20-MW photovoltaic (PV) solar farm in Newport, North Carolina, which is located in Carteret County.

Phase I of the proposed Mill Pond Windfarm will involve the construction of 50 wind turbines. At maximum output, each wind turbine will produce 1.6 MW for the local grid system. Construction of the windfarm is expected to begin in 2015.

The wind turbines will be installed on both sides of Mill Creek Road. The project is still in the development stage and will require state, city and county approval before it is allowed to move forward.

Phase II will be the Little Deep Creek PV Solar Facility. It is still in early development and is not expected to begin construction until 2016.

The wind and solar facilities are expected to reduce pollution in Newport and Carteret County.
