Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands) successfully completed a planned turnaround at the 65,600-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Fredericia Refinery in August. The plant is operated by Shell subsidiary A/S Dansk Shell (Naerum, Denmark).
On August 23, Shell restarted the Fredericia refinery after a nine-nonproduction-day maintenance shutdown. Although mechanical work was performed on the 65,600-BBL/d crude unit, the 29,000-BBL/d visbreaker and the 13,000-BBL/d FCC, all the remaining processing units had to come down due to lack of feedstock. Separately, two overhead condensers on the crude unit also were replaced during this outage. This work was originally planned for Shell's next overhaul, scheduled for September 2010; however, authorities decided to take advantage of this downtime to perform the maintenance repairs.
