Turnaround Planned for Total's French Feyzin Refinery

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Total S.A.'s (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France) 117,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Feyzin refinery is scheduled to undergo a maintenance turnaround in the second half of 2013.

Located in the Rhone-Alpes region, near the city of Lyon, the Feyzin refinery is one of six refineries that the Total S.A. leads in France. Created in 1964, the refinery produces a wide range of products such as bitumen, fuels, gas oil, naphtha, kerosene, benzene, and liquefied petroleum gas. It also produces ethylene, propylene and butadiene in the petrochemical area.

The turnaround, which will entail mainly cleaning and inspection, is planned for the second half of 2013 and will concern two of the three main production areas of the refinery: the Processing Area and the Waters Area, which have 21 units in all. Units are expected to be kept offline for a non-production period of 45 days.

In October 2007, the refinery underwent a planned maintenance turnaround to improve security conditions, and units were kept offline for a non-production period of 43 days. Separately, in February 2009, a planned shutdown was performed at the Petrochemical Area, keeping the two units of the area, a Steam Cracker and a Flare unit, offline for 60 days.

Under normal conditions, maintenance turnarounds at the refinery are performed every six years.
