Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Allen S. King Power Station, located in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota, tripped offline its 598-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 steam turbine Monday afternoon due to electrical equipment repairs. The station is owned by Northern States Power (Minneapolis, Minnesota), a subsidiary of Xcel Energy Incorporated (NYSE:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota).
An investigation of Unit 01 revealed there was a disturbance on the system, causing low output from the generator. Repairs are under way, and officials expect the unit to return online by Friday at the latest.
The Allen S. King Power Station began operation in April 1968. In June 2007, the plant completed a 3-year Metro Emissions Reduction Project, aimed at reducing air emissions and extending the life of the plant.
