Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). United Resources Recovery Corporation (URRC) (Spartanburg, South Carolina) is progressing with plans to build their first commercial scale PET (Polyethylene Terephthlate) recycling plant in North Carolina with sites in Raleigh under consideration.
URRC plans to use a unique technology they developed called UnPET, which uses waste PET products such as plastic soft drink bottles to produce PET flake approved by the FDA to be used in the production of new food grade plastic bottles and containers. The UnPET technology chemically cleans and depolymerizes the surface of the PET polymer and removes contaminants. URRC expanded its pilot scale production unit located in Spartanburg, South Carolina to produce semi commercial quantities of approximately 10 million pounds per year to satisfy short-term market demand.
Azure Technologies Incorporated (Oak Park, Illinois) is providing engineering services for the new plant. URRC plans to utilize an existing building for its proposed North Carolina plant, which will ultimately produce over 30 million pounds per year of PET flake. Plans for a new plant in Mexico City are also being considered for a commercial plant that will basically be a carbon copy of the new plant in Raleigh.
