U.S. EnviroFuels Cancels Plans for Port Manatee Fuel Ethanol Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Privately held ethanol venture United States EnviroFuels, LLC (Riverview, Florida) has cancelled plans to construct a new fuel ethanol plant that was to be located at the Manatee County Port Authority Complex located in Palmetto, Florida. The cancellation was a huge disappointment for the Port Authority and local farmers considering the revenues that the plant would have generated through increased corn shipping and loosing out on a new market for locally grown corn and grains.

The deal hit a snag when an agreement on sub-leasing terms of the property could not be met. U.S. EnviroFuels had also been in talks with port tenant and fuel terminal operator TransMontaigne Partners (Denver, Colorado) to sub-lease 16½ acres of land. Failure to reach agreeing terms on the sub-lease deal is what killed the project.

Plans were to construct an $80 million, 40 million-gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that would utilize locally grown corn and grain feedstocks and the port’s infrastructure and nearby fuel distributor seemed to be a great fit for success. U.S. EnviroFuels is still optimistic they may be able to find a workable situation at the port in the future.

Plans for the company’s other project in Florida are moving forward as intended. A second location eyed by the company that would be suitable for an ethanol plant is in the Port of Tampa. This location will be designed and built by Delta-T (Williamsburg, Virginia). Plans here called for the creation of a 50 million-gallon per year plant that is scheduled to become operational by late 2007.
