Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Prospects for providing engineering, construction and major equipment to the industrial marketplace are gaining strength in the U.S. Southeast market region. According to Industrial Info, the region is showing more than $111 billion in project expenditures. The Southeast comprises Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
According to Industrial Info, more than 1,650 major capital and maintenance projects are being developed or are under construction in the region. Individually, project values range from $500,000 to $14 billion.
The sum of all capital expenditures amounts to more than $109 billion and is derived from 980 individual projects. Roughly 49%, or $59.9 billion, of all spending is in the planning stages--from market analysis through permitting and review of issues. A total of 184 projects are approved or in the engineering phase, with a cumulative value of $24.8 billion. Figures show 199 projects that already have started construction, tallying up to $25.3 billion.
Expenditures tied to maintenance projects total just more than $2 billion from 692 projects. The bulk of the expenditures are attributed to the Power Industry, with nearly $1.1 billion from 129 scheduled maintenance shutdowns and outages. On the other hand, the Chemical Processing Industry has the highest level of maintenance project activity, with 157 projects totaling a mere $299 million.
Georgia, with more than $31 billion in expenditures, ranks first in terms of the number of projects and the aggregate value of investment dollars. However, those figures are inflated by a single project: $14 billion to add two new units at a nuclear power plant in Waynesboro.
