Valero's Texas City Alky Unit Could be Down 4-5 Months After Fire

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A quick update from IIR Energy on the status of the HF Alky Unit at Valero Energy Corporation's (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio, Texas) Texas City refinery in Texas. The 12,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) unit remains down after an explosion and fire that occurred on April 19 at the 225,000-BBL/d refinery. The unit could be down for four to five months, according to estimates. The adjacent 88,000-BBL/d FCCU, 60,000-BBL/d Gasoline Desulfurizer and the Gas Con units located in the FCC Complex 2 Area 2, which were also taken down at the time of the fire, have accelerated six weeks of planned maintenance previously scheduled for early January, 2019. Separately, the Residfiner (GOHT), which was forced to reduce rates on April 25, returned to normal rates on May 1. Plant personnel have indicated that the FCCU may stay offline until the HF Alky unit is repaired and returned to operation.
