We Energies Completes Construction of $300 Million Expansion Project at Port Washington Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--We Energies (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), a subsidiary of Wisconsin Energy Corporation (NYSE:WEC) (Milwaukee), has completed construction and start-up testing of a $300 million, 545-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle expansion project at the company's Port Washington Power Station in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin.

Construction began in February 2006. We Energies is set to commence full commercial operation of the new project by the end of May 2008. The project consisted of adding a two-on-one combined-cycle power island to the existing facility. The expansion featured two 170 MW natural-gas-fired GE Energy MS7001FA combustion turbine generators, two Alstom Power duct-fired heat recovery steam generators and a 205 MW GE Energy D-11 condensing steam turbine generator. The new expansion will be equipped with state-of-the-art air emissions-reduction technology, including selective catalytic reduction (SCR) for the reduction of NOx emissions and the use of catalytic oxidation for the control of CO2 emissions.

Wisconsin Power Constructors (Port Washington, Wisconsin), a subsidiary of Washington Group International (Boise, Idaho), provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.
