Researched by Protel Associates Limited in alliance with Industrial Info Europe (Galway, Ireland)--Lisburn City Council in Northern Ireland has voted to perform a public enquiry regarding Rose Energy's planning application (Glenavy, Northern Ireland) for a major energy-from-waste (EfW) plant to be constructed in Glenavy, a village near Lisburn. Rose Energy Limited (Glenavy) was formed as a joint venture between three of Northern Ireland's leading agri-food companies: Moy Park Limited (Craigavon), O'Kane Poultry Limited (Broughshane, Ballymena) and Glenfarm Holdings Limited (Glenavy). The company plans to construct and operate a power plant fuelled by agricultural biomass.
The proposed 30-megawatt plant will use mainly poultry bedding in addition to meat and bone meal supplied from the manufacturing plants of the three companies. Rose Energy currently plans to locate the plant adjacent to Glenfarm subsidiary Ulster Farm By-Products Limited, near Glenavy.
Rose Energy had been hopeful that local objections could be overcome to allow planning consent to be granted before the end of 2008, but this is now not expected to occur before the second quarter of 2010 and will depend on the outcome of the public enquiry. The construction and commissioning phase is estimated to take up to three years.
