Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Xianning Nuclear Power Company Limited (XNPC) (Wuhan, Hubei), a joint venture of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen, Guangdong) and Hubei Energy Group Company Limited (Wuhan, Hubei), recently completed the environmental impact assessment report for Phase I of the Xianning Nuclear Power Plant and submitted it to China's Ministry of Environmental Protection for approval. So far, XNPC has completed six of the 12 key works scheduled for 2010, CGNPC announced on September 30.
As the owner of Xianning Nuclear Power Plant, XNPC awarded the contract for the preparation of the environmental impact assessment report to Suzhou Nuclear Power Research Institute (SNPI) (Suzhou, Jiangsu) in late 2009. With support from China Nuclear Power Design Company (Shenzhen), another subsidiary of CGNPC, SNPI officially began preparing the report on December 11, 2009 and completed the preparation work in August 2010. On September 8, 2010, XNPC and SNPI jointly published the report for final public participation.
Xianning Nuclear Power Plant is one of the first group of AP1000-based nuclear power projects planned in inland China. The power plant plans to build four AP1000 reactors with a total investment of about $8.8 billion. Two of the units will be built in Phase I.
On August 17, 2010, XNPC signed the General Contracting Framework Agreement for construction of the nuclear island of the Xianning Nuclear Power with the consortium of State Nuclear Power Engineering Company (Shanghai) and Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research & Design Institute (Shanghai), both of which are the Wuhan-based subsidiaries of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation.
To date, site preparation for units 1 and 2 of the power plant has been completed. Supply contracts for equipment in the conventional island and nuclear island have been awarded. The concrete foundation for Unit 1 has been scheduled to be poured on April 15, 2011.
