Hitachi Automotive Products Plant in Kentucky Undergoes $48 Million Expansion

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Hitachi Automotive Products USA Incorporated (Harrodsburg, Kentucky) is performing a $48 million expansion at a plant in Harrodsburg. The new facility will produce new fuel systems; advanced electronic control modules to be used for controlling automotive-engine and drive-train functions; and other new products for the automotive industry.

A 170,000-square-foot electronics building will be added to the existing 520,000-square-foot plant. Construction began this month, and overall completion is slated for June 2011. Approximately 144 jobs will be created over three years.

Hitachi Automotive Products USA Incorporated began operations at the Harrodsburg plant in 1985, with the opening of a 40,000-square-foot facility that had 75 employees. Currently, the plant employs more than 600 people in a facility covering 520,000 square feet.

The Bristol Group (Lexington, Kentucky) was selected to provide general construction services for the expansion.

Hitachi Automotive Products USA Incorporated, a subsidiary of Hitachi, America, manufactures and markets electrical and electronic automotive products, offering control units, alternators, drive trains, injectors, inverters, motors and sensors.
