Argentina's ENARSA Seeks Company for Natural Gas Pipeline Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Cordoba, Argentina)--Argentina's state energy and hydrocarbons company ENARSA S.A. (Buenos Aires, Argentina) is seeking an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company to perform detailed engineering and the installation of the first three phases of the Gasoducto del Noreste Argentino (GNEA) Natural Gas Pipeline project.

The first three phases of the pipeline will be 797 kilometers long, with a diameter of 32 inches, and will be able to transport up to 13 million cubic meters per day of natural gas. It is to be installed along a 229-kilometer stretch in the Salta province, a 303-kilometer stretch in the Formosa province, and a 265-kilometer stretch in the northern area of the Santa Fe province.

The installation of this project has been postponed for many years due to insufficient natural gas volumes in service in Bolivia, the supplier country. This situation obliged the engineers to redesign the original project in 2010.

The completed GNEA pipeline will be 1,448 kilometers long and will be connected to the existing Juana Asurduy Natural Gas Pipeline, which was inaugurated in 2011. This pipeline consists of a 32-kilometer pipe that begins in the border between Bolivia and Argentina and goes to the location of Campo Duran in Salta. From there, the GNEA Pipeline Project will transport natural gas to the rest of Salta and the provinces of Formosa, Chaco, Corrientes, Misiones and Santa Fe.

ENARSA also plans to construct eight new compressor stations along the pipeline, but these projects (phases 4, 5 and 6) are still in prefeasibility studies. The whole project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
