AG Processing Starts Construction on Soybean Crushing and Biodiesel Unit Addition in Missouri

Farmer-owned cooperative Ag Processing, Incorporated (Omaha, Nebraska) has begun construction on a soybean crushing and biodiesel unit addition at its soybean crushing and vegetable oil refinery in Saint Joseph, Missouri. Plans are to install a new extraction unit that will increase the plant’s crushing capacity by 60% to 120,000 bushels per day of soybeans. The additional capacity will also feed virgin soybean oil to a new 28 million-gallon per year biodiesel unit on which construction has recently begun at the site as well.

Currently, site work is underway under the direction of M&W Contractors, Incorporated (East Peoria, Illinois) and construction is expected to be in full swing by the first quarter of 2007. Both projects are expected to be fully operational by early to mid-2008.

Cost estimates for both projects represent over $80 million in capital investment.

When complete, the expansion will increase AGP’s capacity to produce biodiesel to over 107 million gallons annually. The company is expected to have an expansion at its Sergeant Bluff, Iowa plant completed by the first quarter of 2007 and will increase biodiesel production capacities there to 27 million gallons annually. The company’s other biodiesel production facility is located in Hastings, Nebraska and produces about 52 million gallons per year.
