Alpha Holdings Starts Construction on Tama Ethanol Plant in Iowa

Investor-owned Alpha Holdings, LLC’s (Washoe Valley, Nevada) ethanol venture, Tama Ethanol, LLC (Tama, Iowa), has started construction on a new fuel ethanol plant that will be located in Tama, Iowa. Plans call for the creation of a 100 million-gallon per year plant that will process 38 million bushels of corn into the renewable fuel. AGRA Industries (Merrill, Wisconsin) will design and build the plant.

Construction is expected to take fourteen to eighteen months to complete and cost around $130 million.

And 90 miles west of Tama, Alpha is also building another ethanol plant in Dexter named Dexter Ethanol, LLC, which broke ground earlier this month. It too is a 100 million-gallon per year plant that is expected to become operational a month ahead of the Tama project.

Currently, there are seven fuel ethanol plants under construction in Iowa representing over 600 million gallons of additional capacity. Plants under construction include US BioEnergy Corporation in Albert City (100MM gal/yr); Green Plains Renewable Energy in Shenandoah (50MM gal/yr); Absolute Energy in Saint Ansgar (100MM gal/yr); Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy in Council Bluffs (100MM gal/yr); Green Plains Renewable Energy in Superior (50MM gal/yr); Pinnacle Ethanol in Corning (60MM gal/yr) and Plymouth Energy in Merrill (50MM gal/yr).
