Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany), through subsidiary Siemens in Argentina, has started construction on the Guillermo Brown thermoelectric power plant in General Cerri, Buenos Aires, under a turn-key contract.
The power plant will be operated by Central Termoelectrica Guillermo Brown (TGB), a subsidiary of AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) (Arlington, Virginia). It will generate 580 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity, and it will be equipped with two 290-MW turbines (model SGT5-4000F) provided by Siemens, which will be fueled by natural gas, diesel and biodiesel. Two Siemens electrical generators also will be installed (model SGen5-1000A).
The civil works for the plant began in early January 2014, and the total investment is estimated to be $800 million. TGB also will be responsible for the maintenance of the plant throughout its life cycle. The contract includes the provision of parts and labor.
