Argentine President Inaugurates 400-Megawatt Turbine at Manuel BelgranoThermoelectric Plant

The combined-cycle power plant, located in Campana, Buenos Aires Province, is operated by Spain's Endesa and will have a total power output of 827 MW when at full capacity in mid-2009.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner headed an inauguration ceremony on March 18, 2008, for the Manuel Belgrano thermoelectric power plant's first turbine, which will deliver 400 megawatts (MW) to the National Interconnected System during Phase I.

The combined-cycle power plant, located in Campana, Buenos Aires Province, is operated by Spain's Endesa and will have a total power output of 827 MW when at full capacity in mid-2009. The plant's other combustion turbine will go into operation in six months. The steam turbine will be installed in mid-2009 to close the cycle, enabling the plant to generate a maximum of 827 MW. The Manuel Belgrano facility, along with the San Martin thermoelectric plant under construction in Timbues, Rosario Province, will be fed indistinctively by natural gas or diesel fuel from fuel storage facilities built in the surrounding areas. When completed in 2009, both plants will be able to generate 1,600 MW, which will greatly contribute to Argentina's strong economic growth, which has boosted power demand in the past few years. On the other hand, the new GE LMS100 combustion turbine being added to the Central Termica Guemes power plant in Argentina's Salta Province will go into operation next September and will add 98 MW of new capacity.
