Biofuels Company of America Constructs Illinois Biodiesel Plant

Biofuels Company of America LLC (Memphis, Tennessee), a joint venture between Bunge North America (Saint Louis, Missouri), the North American operating arm of Bunge Limited (NYSE:BG ) and Biodiesel Investment Group LLC (Memphis, Tennessee), is progressing with construction activity on a new biodiesel plant located in Danville, Illinois.

Currently, both the office building and processing building are enclosed and equipment is set along with the completion of a 20-tank tank farm. Once completed, the plant will have the capacity of producing 45 million gallons per year of biodiesel from some 30 million bushels of soybeans. The oil will be provided by Bunge’s soybean crushing operation adjacent to the biodiesel plant.

Ambitec (Danville, Illinois) was selected as the construction manager for the project and Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota) is acting as the general contractor. Mechanical completion on the project is expected by the end of the year and the plant is expected to go through start-up procedures in January 2008.

Cost estimates to build the plant are in the $40 million range.

One additional biodiesel plant is currently under construction in Illinois. Nova Biosource Fuels Incorporated (Houston, Texas) is building a 60 million gallon per year plant in Seneca that is expected to be completed by February 2008. The state has one plant running in Elwood owned by Stephan Company that is currently ramping up capacity to 49 million gallons per year.
