Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Eletrobras Eletronuclear (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), a subsidiary of Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras S.A. (Eletrobras) (Rio de Janeiro), plans to perform the annual refueling outage at the Almirante Álvaro Alberto Nuclear Power Station (Angra 1) starting March 29.
The plant is located in the region of Angra dos Reis, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It has a 657-megawatt (MW) steam turbine and a pressurized water reactor, both manufactured by Westinghouse LLC (Monroeville, Pennsylvania).
Eletrobras expects to begin the annual refueling shutdown March 29, with an estimated duration of 33 days.
Eletrobras also plans to perform the same procedure on Central Nuclear Angra 2 in July for 30 days. The Angra 2 power station has a 1,350-MW steam turbine and a pressurized reactor, each manufactured by Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany).
Angra started up in 1985 and is Brazil's first nuclear power station.
Eletrobras Eletronuclear supplies 3% of Brazil's power.
