Brazil's Suzano Papel e Celulose Plans Maintenance Shutdown for Mucuri Pulp & Paper Mill

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazilian Pulp & Paper company Suzano Papel e Cellulose (Sao Paulo, Brazil) has scheduled separate maintenance shutdowns for two production lines at the Mucuri paper mill in Bahia, Brazil. Maintenance and major repairs in Line 1 are expected to commence on January 27, 2011, and will last seven days. Maintenance activities in Line 2 will begin June 6, and the line will resume production June 14.

The engineering and maintenance departments will oversee the hiring of industrial contractors and suppliers to complete repairs and equipment replacements in the various production areas of the mill. Bidding for the Line 1 maintenance shutdown is scheduled for November of this year. The maintenance will have a total investment value of about $4 million. In April 2011, bids will be accepted for the Line 2 maintenance, which has an estimated total investment value of about $4.5 million.

The mill started operations in 1996 and produces 680,000 tons of kraft softwood unbleached pulp and 240,000 tons of paper each year. Approximately 970 people work at the mill.
