Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Beijing, China)--The environment impact assessment (EIA) report for Jiangsu Huadian Yangzhou Power Generation Company Limited's (Yangzhou, Jiangsu) 800-megawatt (MW), gas-fired cogeneration expansion project at the Yangzhou Power Plant recently received approval from the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), according to an MEP announcement on July 9, 2013.
According to the approval, the expansion project will be furnished with two 400-MW, combined-cycle units, together with two 290-ton-per-hour heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), by shutting down two 220-MW, coal-fired units at the existing plant. These two HRSGs will be furnished with selective catalyst reduction (SCR) denitration devices with liquid ammonia as the catalyst, and the denitration efficiency will not be less than 60%. Each HRSG also will be furnished with one 60-meter-high chimney and natural circulation water-cooling tower system. In addition, the existing water supply and disposal facilities in the plant will be expanded. Grid connection and ammonia supply will be based on existing transmission lines and liquid ammonia tanks. The total investment in the project will be about $423 million, including about $14 million for environmental protection.
The Yangzhou Power Plant is located at the meeting of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and the Ancient Canal in the northeast suburban of Yangzhou City. The power plant was initially built in 1958 and currently has two 330-MW, coal-fired units in operation.
As reported, the project is among those listed in the first batch of natural gas-based, peak load regulation power projects planned by the state in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15). The project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration (NEA) to kick off pre-stage preparation in February 2012. According to the schedule, construction of the project will kick off later this year.
