CNNC Kicks Off Overall Engineering for First ACP1000 Nuclear Power Reactor

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first meeting for the overall engineering of the first ACP1000 nuclear power reactor was held at the Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC) (Chengdu, Sichuan) on October 19. This marks that the third generation of nuclear power technology developed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) (Beijing) has moved from a research stage to an engineering stage.

Huaxiang Lv, the deputy general manager of the CNNC, and Xiaoming Li, the assistant general manager of the CNNC, as well as other leaders and representatives attended the kick-off meeting.

The ACP1000 is an important tool for the CNNC in achieving its goal to become a world-class nuclear power firm, Lv pointed out in the meeting. A complete set of administrative and technical decision-making systems will be established to solve various kinds of problems in timely manner.

The ACP1000 will use pressurized water reactor technology and will implement improvements inspired by the nuclear accident at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi Plant. The ACP1000 technology uses as "active + passive" safety concept and dual containing vessel technology.

The ACP1000 technology will be implemented as units 5 and 6 of the CNNC's Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant in the Fujian province.
