Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 250-megawatt (MW) Golden West Windfarm, located in El Paso County, Colorado, began commercial operations this month.
The project is utilizing 145 General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) wind turbines and is capable of generating enough electricity to power over 62,000 homes. The windfarm has a 25-year power purchase agreement with Xcel Energy Incorporated (NYSE:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota).
The project is owned and operated by NextEra Energy Resources (Juno Beach, Florida), a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach). Construction of the project was completed by Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota). Golden West had a total investment value (TIV) of $496 million and took seven months to reach commercial operations.
