NextEra Energy to Build $640 Million Colorado Windfarms

The company, a unit of Juno Beach, Florida-based NextEra Energy Inc. (NYSE:NEE), started work on the two Colorado windfarm projects in the last few weeks and expects them to be operational by the end of 2015.

The $240 million, 150-megawatt (MW) Carousel Wind Power Project in Kit Carson County will sell all its power to the Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc. (Westminster, Colorado) under a 25-year contract. The windfarm will generate enough power to support the needs of more than 37,000 homes.

The $400 million, 250-MW Golden West Wind Energy Project in El Paso County will be capable of supplying enough power to support the needs of more than 62,000 homes. All the power will be sold to Xcel Energy Inc. (NYSE:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota).
