Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction recently began on the 480-megawatt (MW) power project in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. NTE Energy (Saint Augustine, Florida) awarded Gemma Power Systems (Glastonbury, Connecticut) the general contract. Gemma, a subsidiary of Argan Incorporated (NYSE:AGX) (Rockville, Maryland), will be responsible for hiring subcontractors.

Construction started earlier in October. The project will utilize Mitsubishi's (Tokyo, Japan) GAC turbine technology in a combined-cycle configuration to generate enough energy to power about 400,000 homes.

This project has a total investment value of $450 million and is scheduled to be completed in second-quarter 2018. The project will employ about 300 craft workers at the peak of construction and provide 30 permanent jobs for the area. NTE Energy recently started on a similar project in Middletown, Ohio. Gemma Power Systems also will serve as the general contractor on that project.

Both NTE projects feature an advanced Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Americas (Lake Mary, Florida) M501GAC combustion turbine generator, a Vogt Power International (Louisville, Kentucky) supplementary-fired heat recovery steam generator and a Toshiba America Energy Systems (Charlotte, North Carolina) steam turbine generator.
