Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--NTE Energy's 475-megawatt (MW) Kings Mountain Energy Center is on track to start commercial operations by the fall of 2018. The project last week received Mitsubishi GAC combustion turbines and is on schedule to be completed in record time. The project is located in Cleveland County, North Carolina, and is being constructed by Gemma Power Systems LLC.
The project will utilize two Mitsubishi GAC combustion turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and a steam turbine. The energy center will be capable of supplying enough energy for 400,000 homes and businesses in the Carolinas.
The Kings Mountain project currently has more than 300 construction workers onsite, and that number is expected to rise as the project moves into the mechanical completion phase. There will also be between 25 to 30 permanent jobs when the plant achieves commercial operations. The project has a total investment of more than $440 million and will help bring grid stability to the area, as it brings in new sources of power to replace aging power plants.
NTE Energy is also slated to start construction on a similar project late this year. The 500-MW Reidsville Energy Center project recently obtained state approvals, and will be the second natural gas-powered plant in North Carolina for NTE Energy. The center is expected to be completed in the summer of 2021.
